I remember when they were first renovating this bar. We went in during the early phases and a guy showed us the old cartoon of a bee or wasp or something that was on the old wallpaper. It was very cool and I assume that’s where the name came from. It used to be an old nightclub of some sort. Of course, it became the infamous (”get naked for a free shot/fuck for a free bottle”) place and got out of control at times. I’m glad it’s gone (I live near it of course) but I’m also wondering what’s happening to the building - it’s falling apart and is basically a home for pigeons. PS - an old woman I knew on Fillmore Place used to know an old woman that lived on the 2nd or 3rd floor of that building. They used to have a system telling each other everything was OK at night. I think she said that the woman there used to leave the bathroom light on at night. If it was off, then all was not OK…

I distinctly remember the old Stinger Club: the old red leather banquets, the dense smoke-filled air, the random mix of people that filtered in and out. Nice for a drink during the week. Atrocious during the weekend! Across of my favorite New York club of all time: Luxx, Larry Tee’s naughty litlle party. Reminds me of when I lived southside. Ahh, the old days. I really miss those days.
